17 Big Island, Hawaii Things to Do & Places to Go (family approved) | A 1-Week Tour Around Hawai’i

Start your Big Island, Hawaii planning here. In 1-week we found 17 things to do on Hawai’i that make us want to go back for more. Including our new favorite beach.

Henry, Hattie, Erica, and I had a blast on the Island of Hawai’i earlier this year. Here are our favorite 17 Things to Do on the Big Island, Hawaii in road trip format. Come along as we circumnavigate Hawaii to show you everything worth doing with a family or as a couple during your Hawai’i vacation.

We recommend you stay in Kailua-Kona for the best weather, beaches, and things to do around Hawai’i. Kailua-Kona is an ideal launching pad to do most of these activities. The island isn’t as big as one would think. We stayed for 7-days and we are looking forward to going back.

Our Perfect Day in Hilo Itinerary is my favorite. More itineraries to come.

  2. Hi, we love your videos Hattie is very cute. We will come to Hawaii next week and we will stay on the each island 3 to 5 days could you guys pls suggest the easiest, very short beautiful water falls trail? Thank you!

  3. I can’t believe that you didn’t include Waipi’o Valley. One of the most sacred places on the island as well as one of the most breath taking views.

  4. Wow for anyone who wants to visit Hawaii I think the Big Island would be the last place on earth you would want to visit because there’s only one small pocket that’s worth it and that’s Kona, and when I say small, I mean small. And, you’re lucky if it’s a clear day and the Vog’s not restricting the sunshine. These two make it look nicer than it really is trust me! It rains constantly on the other side of the Island and there is nothing to do.. If you are looking for fun, adventure and great beautiful beaches go to any other Island! I had a blast!!!!

  5. Will be heading to the BI in two weeks, can you recommend a good place to stay and affordable. Thank you for all of the great info.

  6. Thank you for the video!! Very informative. Solo female traveler here. Planning a trip to the Big Island (whilst adhering to all COVID rules). I do not plan to do a lot of off road driving.. but was wondering if it is recommended to rent a jeep vs. full size car. Any thoughts?

  7. Aloha and Shalom,
I lived in Kailua Kona for 3 years, i love Big Island, i live in Honolulu but would like to move back to Big Island 🙏🏽🇮🇱✝️🕊♥️♥️♥️♥️
    Mahalo for sharing!!

  8. Really enjoyed this one as well. Stayed there for a month in 2018 when Kilauea popped her cork, absolutely mind blowing watching it erupt. Kona coffee, really exceptional but spend the extra to get the 100% not the 10% blend. You never mentioned going to Donkey Balls, that’s not a place to miss. The only bad memory of that trip was when my wife ended up in hospital, that was close on $30,000 for 4 days of hell. This island is definitely for the younger and fitter group, we found it a little to far to hike in some cases as we are both in our seventies!

  9. Another awesome video. Thank you. It will be nice when all this election year stupidity is over with. Can’t wait to be able to come back. Still have my fingers crossed for October.
